Cleaning running shoes

Cleaning running shoesCleaning running shoes can be a difficult task. It may take many tries to appropriately clean a good pair of running shoes, and a few expert tips should be considered during the cleaning process.

White running shoes are arguably the most difficult color of running shoes to clean. The cleaning process is often so intensely difficult because white is such a pure and bright color. It is difficult to get to clean any white garment or accessory, but for shoes there are a few tricks and tips to be considered.

The most important tip to consider when cleaning running shoes is to avoid using a washing machine. In fact, many experts will agree that a clothes washing machine and dryer should never be used to clean any type of running shoe.

Shoes should not be placed in a clothes washer for many reasons. Most of these reasons are as a result of the wear and tear that a machine can cause on any shoe. For running shoes a clothes washer can be disastrous. It can cause severe damage to the support, cushion, and structure of a running shoe. A washing machine can also shrink the shoe. This damage will take the average life of the running shoe to be significantly reduced.

The average life of a basic running shoe is three hundred miles. To keep shoes looking their best there are certain ways that one should go about cleaning running shoes. One way is to use a bucket filled with soap and warm water. A toothbrush or sponge can be utilized to scrub the dirt and stains from the shoes.

If the stains are particularly bad, one may want to use baking soda along with warm water and soap. Baking soda will help to reduce or get rid of most surface stains. Both of these processes will work well on colored shoes, but they may not work as well on white shoes. It is usually more difficult to clean white shoes. Even with thorough cleaning white shows may not look as white as they did when they were brand new. In order to white shoes back to their original white a special cleaner or bleach may need to be used.

After cleaning running shoes the shoes will need to dry. It is best to let all shoes air dry. Air drying will allow shoes to dry without being damaged and without shrinking.

Some running shoes can be steamed cleaned. The best shoes for a steam cleaning are leather shoes. Cleaning running shoes that are leather are easy to clean with steam.
If the above tips do not work for cleaning running shoes the shoes may need to be soaked. Soaking running shoes is relatively easy. Many people use their bathtubs for soaking shoes. Just simply fill the bathtub with hot water and a little soap. This process will deodorize and clean the shoes, but they may need to soak for 24 hours or more. After soaking the shoes will need to air dry.
