Running
shoes with most lift or an overly-high arch may restrict pronation,
which is what happens when pressure is applied to the foot (as in walking
or running). The foot has to flatten a little bit (pronation); a hard
shoe that restricts this motion may lead to injuries or irritation.
Instead of simply looking for running shoes with the most lift, visit
a local sports retailer and talk to a fellow athlete. Bring your running-background
(past injuries, special needs, and/or preferences) and they’ll
help you find customized footwear that suits you best.
Running shoes with the most lift are designed for people with extremely
narrow feet and high arches. Also, avoid spongy or too-stiff soles,
both of which can lead to Achilles tendonitis.
