Running shorts
Even though there are some who think running shorts need to be tiny,
this is not always the case. Likewise, even when short shorts are worn,
there is often a reason for it other than that the runner just wants
to wear small shorts.
There are two main categories of runners: distance runners and sprinters.
The kind of runner you are may play a role in the kind of running shorts
you wear.
• Sprinter – This is a sport where fractions of a second
make the difference between first place and second. Because of this,
you are going to want to get running shorts that are going to basically
be out of the way. Long shorts will mess up your stride, whereas shorter
shorts will allow you to run your race without being hampered by loose
material.
• Distance runner – If you are a distance runner, longer
shorts are normally fine to wear. But of you are running on a warm day
and you are running especially far, the shorts can soak in a large amount
of sweat. When this happens, your running shorts might start to feel
a bit heavier. If you are in a race, the practice traditionally has
been to have shorter shorts.
Your choice of running shorts may not make or break your race, but
the right shorts could help you perform.
